The devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Helene has deeply affected our neighbors in Western North Carolina. In response to the unprecedented loss suffered by these communities, the WIMCO Charitable Foundation has stepped up to provide aid. We are proud to share our ongoing efforts and the collective generosity that has fueled our relief work.
Last week, our Foundation purchased several essential items to assist those in need. In addition, we opened our doors to the general public, welcoming donations of supplies and necessities from our community. The response has been remarkable, demonstrating the power of coming together in times of crisis.
By Friday, October 4th, a 24’ gooseneck trailer was filled with supplies and fuel, ready to be transported west. Late Friday and early Saturday, three pickup trucks began their journey to deliver these much-needed resources. Brad Makepeace and Ricky Wilson delivered their trailer to Mountain Ridge High School in Burnsville, NC, while one of our summer interns, Brodie Moore, and a friend took supplies to Swannanoa, NC. We are happy to report that both teams had successful drop-offs and were able to connect with communities in dire need of assistance.
Our efforts don’t stop here. We continue to accept donations and ensure that supplies reach those affected. Brodie remains committed to making additional trips to the region, responding to any supply requests we receive.
At WIMCO, we are driven by our responsibility to serve and uplift those facing hardship, and we are honored to do our part. A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed, donated, or volunteered their time. Your support is making a meaningful impact.
Together, we will continue to help our neighbors rebuild and recover from this disaster.
